They developed their own encryption for the app, his brother has two math phds, the feds tried to get them to use known open source encryption instead which he assumed meant they wanted to backdoor into it. This is pretty crazy. Counter to popular opinions in Infosec for sure but I’m guessing it’s bc westerner Infosec ppl are too trusting of the gov and naive
Westerners all parrot that if it’s not foss it’s not secure, and non-foss encryption is by default worse and weak . This also ties back to the random number generator in bitcoin not being known and probably bc it was probably created by a white hat within the nsa that knew the open source rng’s were already known to the gov and it wouldn’t work that way
