There has to be a better way than saving the qr code picture and then opening it in your pictures to go to the website just to get to the actually profile. What is a simpler method?

Yep, was originally just a QR, but it's kind of evolved. This is still super new, but it's pretty simple, just drop your npub and go. The QR is just if you want to shave it, like having stickers or business cards made up to advertise your zaplink
