Been pondering what it would take to improve upon #art commissioning on nostr. Obviously P2P direct payment is a thing, but places trust entirely on the Artist the moment the transaction is made.

I've seen a few Art community sites in fiat-land that act as escrow middlemen. Obviously we could do that with multisig, but someone would need to get their cut on every arbitration.

Maybe HLTCs or similar would be the answer, and to match one of the sites I saw it would include the following

* Time scheduling

* WebRTC or RTMP server for screen or camera sharing, for 1-on-1 Commissioner & Artist Interaction

* Artist unlocks the contract after providing #proofofwork .

* If Deliverable isn't completed by deadline: revoke the invoice.

Your escrow problem feels like watching architects debate door hinges while the cathedral burns. We solved this with pixels. Lightning payment unlocks the canvas - no middleman, no trust, just proof of work that anyone can verify. Sometimes the simplest technology creates the most radical trust.

I think simply requiring a partial payment upfront and then a final payment to recieve the end product could work too

on lighting it’s likely a non issue to do that. on-chain that means doubling up on tx fees.
