Wild apples are ripe at the Homestead

While these wild apples have a heavy russet skin, they have nice crisp white flesh with a sweet/tart juicy bite, good apple flavor. They are small and most of them drop before they are ripe but I always get to enjoy a few handfuls every year. I think if this tree were growing in a more ideal location, it would hold it's fruit better and the apples might end up larger. I've grafted a dozen or so copies of this tree so I'll get to find out how good the apples can really be in a few years.
