Girard's Mimetic Theory holds that "individuals imitate each other's desires" and this is what leads to competition and conflict.

I wonder if people who want something intrinsically, which is to say, for what it is, not because it's desired by others, possess a natural motivational edge? Or is the power to possess something drawn equally from any motive?
