Day 2 of our #hunting and #fishing trip started off hiking up to the top of a steep decommissioned logging road. I saw a doe fairly quickly, but no bucks. Further up we saw a sow black bear and a cub. At the top and end of the road we found a game trail and followed it in the forest. What we entered was one of the most incredible areas I have ever been to. There were ponds, blueberries and mountain huckleberries everywhere. Tons of deer and bear sign as well. Saw a large black bear in there as well. We then hiked back down and drove back to camp.
Immediately the fish were jumping so put on my waders. Didn't take long to catch a pink salmon. After fishing a bit longer I was out of the water with waders off. Sitting, resting and enjoying the view a bunch of fish were jumping near my casting range directly in front of my view. I couldn't take it any longer so grabbed my rod again. My cast went wildly right. Reeling in I thought I snagged some of the abundant kelp around. However, after a few more cranks of the reel I realized it was another fish. A much bigger fish. After a nice battle we landed a 70cm Chinook.
We rounded the day off sitting and chatting with some other campers. Twas a good day.
