Resumes over nostr

Problem: Employers want the best candidates, but get an overwhelming number of unqualified or underqualified applicants.

Candidate: wants the best possible job with the best possible company (think reputation), but is probably already employed because they are in high demand.

Employers never see the best possible candidate, and the best possible candidate does not apply because that process is stressful.

Solution: Resumes over nostr

How it works:

1. Anyone can create a nostr-native resume (new NIP).

2. This resume benefits from the Web of Trust score of the creator. Employers get a glimpse of whether this is someone who is in some way connected to people they know or follow (referrals are generally better than cold applicants).

3. Individual gets to put themselves out into the market without applying (think LinkedIn). Employers then search a pool of candidates based on their criteria. This could include a WoT score, shared working connections (new NIP could support this), skills criteria, etc… Let’s say I know Kieran and trust his judgement, and would like to know all the people he is connected to (maybe also dedicated some specific level of trust), who happen to have public resumes. I could then search for semi-vetted candidates.

4. Companies can send offers to candidates who may not even be available yet, but are possibly open to new opportunities with the right company, for the right compensation amount.

5. Companies also have profiles that benefit from their own WoT. (the more people follow them, the more likely they are to have a better reputation).

6. Public resumes keep candidates honest about their work history, education etc.. because anyone can verify that

WoT based hiring, hadn't thought of that, but it does look interesting.

It’s not necessary wot based but it would play some factor and help with the sifting process.

5 is just as important as 1 - 4 and 6. It's vital that companies' be held to the fire, publicly, when it comes to their reputation.

I love this whole idea and I really hope you flesh this out to it's logical conclusion: implementation.

Needs to be refined a bit, but other that, sounds like a good base to start with!

Key in getting mass people to use a system like the one you mentioned would be UX, would be cool to just export your LinkedIn profile, upload to Nostr Resumes and it’s done.

Maybe initially have the company profiles on the system be much more simple to start with, in order to have the focus on people and not companies.

Maybe a flow to create an npub and import LinkedIn data somehow … but I doubt LinkedIn would allow that

Good Idea but I and many other want to stay anonymous. How can we archive that? Payment via lightning? Or is this just for freelancers?

Talent matching is a huge problem. Just look at the fees spent on recruiters and headhunters. So it’s a massive market, which is a great start

Equally, & as you point out, a warm intro from someone you trust is arguably a 10x on a cold application. “Oh, Karnage, you worked with this person for a year, I like the look of them for x role, should they apply?” True signal from noise.

Plus the inventive alignment is great. Employees and employers are more accountable to their actions. This in particular could be a benefit to both sides. Play cricket, get rewarded, play with people’s lives, get called out on it

There is already a Json Resume project https://jsonresume.org/ and a lot of the technical stuff is already explored and done. So the first step of bringing a new schema to Nostr is the easy part.

The rest is a huge challenge. Among other things. It would require the absence of hypocrisy on the employer site. Also tweaking of the CV to fit a job offer is not necessary dishonest. Yeah I see the analogy with service history for a car, but I'm not sure if I really like it.

In general I like the idea and to be honest I was already thinking about it as well, but I didn't like any of the solutions I come up with. :-)

There needs to be some clear way for a candidate to categorize their own availability and interest, to lower company hiring spam, primarily from headhunter flunkies who don't know what not to do.

Examples:

- I'm employed, unlikely to switch, but interested to hear only of positions that match certain criteria exactly: (a, b, c, ...)

- Unemployed but interested only in positions that match my criteria

- Contracting only, and I'm interested in more concurrent contracts, and my current busy percent is x%.

- Unemployed and send me anything you think fits my skillset, and hurry!

this is exactly the starting point for the project that evolved into credo (8 yrs ago)..

the WoT, (or as I termed it credibility graph in the app), can be a powerful mechanism for a whole host of applications, but this basic idea was the first one

but you need a viable graph before this becomes useful, and the problem with a stand-alone resume-focussed app is that people don't change jobs that often, so they don't feel the network

linked in didn's start out as a job platform either, nor could it survive without the social-marketing uses

one of the other problems is that the current social WoT isn't actually as useful for skills matching, it's not precise enough to score skills on, more of a 'who you know' thing

key idea of credo was to allow ratings of people/content by topic of expertise/interest, and use those to compute graph scores.

we're close to releasing a reboot of credo on nostr, should be fun to try it out

Wot not meant to be something to score skills on, more of an additional filter. We also have the social mechanism- the best one.

why not score skills? the purely social mechanism broadly tells how good someone's at.. well, being social

nostr devs as case in point, i bet there are tons of good devs that have low WoT because they're busy coding, not shitposting

Maybe if nostr takes over the world, but... I'm not going to be associating my actual legal ID with nostr ever. So no thanks. If nostr ever gets ubiquitous enough for me to HAVE to do that, I'll reconsider.
