Can you spot the problem here? Picture is some of my running bamboo collection in concrete culvert planters.

Cool! How did you build these? And what is the problem?

These bamboo planters are made from 4ft culverts cut in half from my neighbors. They wanted to get rid of them, asked if I wanted them and I said yeah, but only if they're halved. So they had their handyman cut them and I scooped them up with my tractor forks. There's 8 of them planted to a variety of bamboo. I will give the answer in another comment soon. #grownostr #bamboo

Looks like one of the culverts has a crack in it and you have bamboo escaping.

A metaphor for life if we are the bamboo, flexible but never yielding the pressure, and the state is the culvert, its rigidity is its achillies heel as it can't flex or bend in response to any change in pressure..

Or its just some bamboo in a concrete culvert.. 😁😉

This answer is partially correct, the Okuboi bamboo (center of pic) is escaping the planter, but it's not even cracked 😅 🤷‍♂️

I'll zap you for guessing mostly right 👍

You have a rogue shoot, that sucks.

I just planted two Bambusa Oldhamii in my backyard. In three years they will be 18 metres (59 feet in Freedom Units) tall and the culms will be 4-6 inches in diametre.

They are clumpers not runners

Yep! Awesome. What zone are you in? We're zone 8b and most clumpers can't take a hard freeze.

No idea what zone I am in as I am in SE Australia, but to give you an idea, we have a very long, hot and dry Summer like Texas but our Winters are nowhere near as cold. We barely get below freezing overnight in Winter.

Its a dry Mediterranean climate

Hey there fellow Aussie 🫂🇦🇺

Rogue shoot update. They grow so fast! I'll dig it up and prune the roots around the planter soon.
