sounds like another excuse to keep on-chain stuff off-chain, meaning lower fees for me (i mine a lot)

I agree. Scaling is most important. Fees will work themselves out if adoption increases.

If bitcoin goes to $10M, the current ~.15 fee subsidy per block is significantly higher than the current 6.25 reward + .15 fee subsidy at $25k.

$1.5M vs $160k.
