It has been said that we gain more in Christ than we lost in Adam. This is true.
Do we gain more in Christ than what was promised to Abraham?
So much focus on the land grant; it seems the promise was magnified in Jer. 31:31 and Joel 2 and elsewhere to a far greater 'grant' - namely, the very Spirit of God. The receiving of the Spirit is the consummation of all the promises in the OT.
This is how Peter summarized it in Acts 2:38. It is a focus of the missionary work in Acts. It is a focus of Paul in Romans and Corinthians, Ephesians, and Galatians. In Galatians, e.g., when Paul chooses to distill "all the promises to Abraham" into one word, he did not say "receiving the land" he said "receiving the Spirit."
It is through him - the Spirit - that we are born again. It is through him we are grafted into Christ, having been adopted into his household as it were. It is through him that we are called not only "sons of Abraham" but sons of the living God.
The land is mud pies in the slum. The Spirit is the holiday at the sea.
Let's stay on target, brothers.
