Yes It was my first combo choice honestly, looks like there isn't any particular alternative right? I saw also that Google will release soon a new Pixel so probably it's the good time to have some discounts on the older gen (8, 8a).

You also can look for a phone you can run CalyxOS on. This gives you more options cause Calyx is not limited to Google Pixel.
