Communism is kind of like a eurocentric bastardized version of Confucianism.

Free markets are a subset of Daoism.

China has been in a tug of war between these two philosophies since about ~600BC.

Actually last year I saw a whole presentation on how Confucius was a libertarian. Slightly tongue-in-cheek but still highly informative. Given by Dr. Akina of the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii.
