My electric bill was overdue. My online fiat banking, I'm still tied in ways I submit to and keep barely enough in for 'ease of use' in that system, has been down for a day and a half. I can't even check the balance to see what I could pay.

I conducted a test and begrudgingly spent some sats on a virtual visa card. It apparently worked and the electric bill was paid.

“You’ve had this power the whole time?” 🤣🤣🤣

*not a direct quote* 😂

But the sentiment is totally believable and all too familiar 🤣

I think this made more of an impact than the one off Amazon gift card test 🥴

Cash app has a very easy to use debit card tied to bitcoin works great over here even have it on my watch and phone to pay for things

I have a cash app debit card but as far as I know it's still all tied to fiat, even though it would have probably felt less sketchy, I think I went the prepaid card just to pretend I didn't hit "sell" even though it's the same outcome. 🤷

It just helps bridge that #bitcoin to fiat world for the bills that haven’t accepted #bitcoin YET 💜🫂🫡

One time I took my son to Applebees and forgot my wallet. My phone at the time didn't support NFC, I think, so no GooglePay. Now it is GrapheneOS, so also no GooglePay. But I was able to buy an Applebees gift card with bitcoin, and pay for our meal. Wasn't easy at the time, amd took some creativity, but still felt a little like a superpower that I could show off in front of my kid.

It might not be perfectly seamless yet, or maybe even in the near future, but it still blows my mind all the ways I can tap into using it outside of just on network.

i go to the machine and pay cash. anonymously
