Can someone help me understand why using ecash/ chaumian/fesimint would be preferred to lightning? The only reason I can see is that the privacy is total and lightning is almost total. Seem like it just recreates the current banking system with bitcoin instead of treasuries…still an improvement but would need trusted 3rd parties. I admit I have a very limited understanding of this layer 3 (I guess???).

Its for scaling and privacy for custodian. Not really used instead of lightning, but in conjunction with.

So it would be layer 3 since it’s built on top of lnd…correct?

no. its built on top of layer 1 and has interfaces with layer 2.
