He's claiming that my addiction to coffee is as bad as his to his smartphone, and that it'd be more difficult for me to refrain from drinking coffee than for him to stay off his phone.

Good job, but tell him coffee ain't addiction is a healthy habit that may keep dad along for more time, good against, parkinson's, dementia and Alzheimer's disease, all brewed in a hot pot
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm telling him, but he's just pointing to my headaches and me being tired if I don't drink coffee. That's proof enough for him
