Got a Ring doorbell as a gift, Looked into it and it turns out that data audio/video does to their cloud servers.

How are people okay with this company always having access to what is happening right in front of you door?

How is this not a privacy concern for their customers?

Needless to say I'm returning it.

It's disturbing.

Yeah Amazon are fucking dickheads! Even the Alexa thing creates it's own IoT networkk with other Amazon devices... fuck them in their stupid preying predatory asses.

Having said that, I'm using a Google Doorbell and I feel like a complete hypocrite for saying that... Anyone recommend a open source solution for creating your own? Beeping the phone via a webhook or something? (I have nfi what im talking about).

Home assistance stuff is really really fun... when it's self hosted.

Need something like this but with the cam and night vision etc.

I heard they have a contract with the government to look at those servers. But I don't know how to research that information

Would not surprise me at all. The whole thing is probably an intelligence op.
