Oh no!
Unfortunately, my dad has a cat with this problem, too.
He has hand fed this cat since kittenhood to mitigate the problem π
I think a better solution would be to close the cat in a room with an easy to clean floor until a little while after his meal time. Then even if he throws up, you can clean it and then everyone goes about their day.
But heβs never tried it my way.
I swear he walks away from the hard floor to the carpet just to add salt to the injury.

Definitely close him in a hard floor room like a bathroom if you can.
