Hey, anyone care to share their thoughts or experiences with “smart meters”? My power company plans to swap out my regular meter for a smart meter at some point and if I want to opt out it will cost me an extra 25 bucks or so per month to keep the old meter. Wish that going off grid were an option but it’s not so I’m wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this?

can your old meter run backwards (e.g. when you are feeding own solar into the grid)? If yes and you have the option to generate your own electricity, even just with a small 800w solar setup, I'd keep the old one as I've yet to see a new one that goes into negatives.

I don’t know if it can run backwards but solar is certainly worth a look. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
