I know shiitake mycelium is supposed to turn brown at some point, but Im not sure if this looks quite right?

Is that just the hyhpal knots forming?
The black balls look like cellular necrosis.
Weird, I’ll have to learn more about that! The plate came from a transfer, which came from some really old Liquid Culture.
I'm not sure about it being necrosis but I do know that senescence happens in cultures and a whole new batch from spores needs to be spun up. At least according to Paul Stamets and some other guys' books.
