you're comparing it to historical isolationism where there was no connection to the outside world with trade or communication.

this is not giving out corrupt Charity from my forced tax dollars. but difference

its comes down to the exercise of power over other countries.

the argument is that if *we* aren't involved internationally in exercising our advantage over other places, China (or somebody) will be.

and they will leverage their resource advantage against us.

Therefore

if we're really America ONLY

we need to be active on the international stage or we fall behind and end up at a disadvantage.

I'd argue that that's done more harm than good over the years
