The fans in my PC were running at full speed, but it was fixed after cleaning the internals and resetting the BIOS settings to their default values. However, this time there was a phenomenon where adSSO-v2 went out of control and started excessively using the GPU. The issue was resolved by removing adSSO-v2 itself and adding the following lines to the Maya.env file:

MAYA_DISABLE_CIP=1

MAYA_DISABLE_CLIC_IPM=1
