Spent this afternoon unloading plants and soil salvaged from an urban landscaping job. Mostly got ladies mantel (highly medicinal incl women's health) and daylily (all parts of plant edible and tasty... Leaves and tubers taste like peas, flowers are peppery). Both perennial in zone 4.

I got paid to load and unload the materials, and saved the customer the dump fee, so we both won big here.

Used salvaged cardboard as mulch, spread soil and in an hour had a plan nursery for free (well actually I got paid 😄)

I maintain that landscaping is one of the most compatible jobs for the homesteader. I typically use yard waste (I call it yard garbage) to mulch beds, which results in many interesting volunteer plants. Note: I am primarily keeping perennial plants, so idgaf about 'weeds' survival of the fittest here +/-
