What NOT to do when trying to reach new clients 👇🏼

If you’re sending cold messages without even five seconds of research, you’re doing it wrong.

This person pitched me a $45/hour job to train AI using medical expertise. The problem? If they had actually looked at my LinkedIn profile, they’d see I have nothing to do with the medical field.

This is exactly why people ignore LinkedIn messages—it’s lazy, impersonal, and a complete waste of time.

Here’s why this approach doesn’t work:

1. It feels random and impersonal. No one wants to get a message that clearly wasn’t meant for them.

2. It damages your credibility. If you can’t take a moment to check someone’s background, why would they trust you?

3. It wastes everyone’s time—including yours. Mass-messaging might seem efficient, but if your response rate is near zero, is it really working?

Instead, here’s what works:

✔️ Do your research. Know who you’re reaching out to and why.

✔️ Engage first. Comment on their posts, share valuable insights, start a conversation.

✔️ Personalize. Show that you actually know who they are and how you can help them.

✔️ Offer value. Instead of jumping straight into a pitch, make it about them, not just you.

If your outreach is getting ignored, it’s not because LinkedIn messages “don’t work.” It’s because you’re doing it wrong.

Have you ever received a message like this? What’s the worst cold pitch you’ve seen?
