I think it would be good enough to have interoperability withing the same usecases.

Meaning most social "one-to-all" being interoperable.l among themselves.

And most social "one-to-few" being interoperable among themselves.

and so on

I see the same line of thinking among the Local-first software community.

i.e. Servers around the same type of applications should just be Sync Engines

Relays are literally Sync Services too but only if they’re implemented with similar App use cases in mind.
