When my sister asked what the Online Safety Act was in the UK:
Officially, it’s about making the internet safer—especially for children. But if you’re in the UK, you’ll increasingly be asked to identify yourself to access certain content. On the surface, it’s meant to stop minors from viewing adult material (for example)—but over time, it could be used to restrict politically sensitive topics too, like footage from Gaza, under the guise of “disinformation” or “harmful content.” And of course, it will always be framed as being “for your safety”—even if that comes at the expense of your privacy and access to information.
