All space marines can rapidly tan and revert back again as a defense against radiation, however due a geneseed defect that interacts with the Salamander chapter world, this transformation is permanent for Salamanders. It's just a survival tactic to help them survive on a volcanic Death World clouded in sooth, but the movie writers just went "Nah, they're black space marines now, deal with it"
