Soon it will be Ramadan. Fasting Ramadan is one of the five principles of Islam and in the following some Hadiths of prophet Mohamed, peace be upon him, in regards:

Translation:Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): Allahs Apostle ﷺ said, "When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained."

Narrated Ibn Umar (RA) : Allahs Apostle ﷺ said: Islam is built on (the following) five (principles):

1. To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad ﷺ is Allahs Apostle (to believe in the first principle is the first step to become a Muslim usually done in front of two Muslim witnesses and in Arabic while understanding it’s meaning, it’s called Shahada (to testify): “Ashhasu an laa illaha illa Allah, wa Ashhadu an Mohamed Abduhu wa rasoloh. If unable to find witnesses or to go to the nearest mosque, God is your witness).

2. To offer the (compulsory congregational) prayers (Salat, 5 compulsory prayers each day. The first thing to be questioned about on Judgement Day is Salat).

3. To pay Zakat (i.e. obligatory charity).

4. To perform Hajj. (i.e. Pilgrimage to Makkah. If able to)

5. To observe fast during the month of Ramadan (from dawn until sunset, Maghrib prayer as mentioned in the following verse of the Quran:

It is made lawful for you to have sexual relations with your wives on the night of As-Saum (the fasts). They are Libas [i.e. body cover, or screen, or Sakan, (i.e. you enjoy the pleasure of living with her - as in Verse 7:189) Tafsir At-Tabari], for you and you are the same for them. Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves, so He turned to you (accepted your repentance) and forgave you. So now have sexual relations with them and seek that which Allah has ordained for you (offspring), and eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night), then complete your Saum (fast) till the nightfall. And do not have sexual relations with them (your wives) while you are in I'tikaf (i.e. confining oneself in a mosque for prayers and invocations leaving the worldly activities) in the mosques. These are the limits (set) by Allah, so approach them not. Thus does Allah make clear His Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, revelations, verses, laws, legal and illegal things, Allah's set limits, orders, etc.) to mankind that they may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V. 2:2).

Translation:Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven."

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): Allahs Apostle ﷺ said, "Allah said, All the deeds of Adams sons (people) are for them, except fasting which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it. Fasting is a shield or protection from the fire and from committing sins. If one of you is fasting, he should avoid sexual relation with his wife and quarreling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, I am fasting. By Him in Whose Hands my soul is The unpleasant smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting."

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): Allahs Apostle ﷺ said, "Whoever gives two kinds (of things or property) in charity for Allahs Cause, will be called from the gates of Paradise and will be addressed, O slaves of Allah! Here is prosperity. So, whoever was amongst the people who used to offer their prayers, will be called from the gate of the prayer; and whoever was amongst the people who used to participate in Jihad, will be called from the gate of Jihad; and whoever was amongst those who used to observe fasts, will be called from the gate of Ar-Raiyan; whoever was amongst those who used to give in charity, will be called from the gate of charity." Abu Bakr (RA) said, "Let my parents be sacrificed for you, O Allahs Apostle ﷺ ! No distress or need will befall him who will be called from those gates. Will there be any one who will be called from all these gates?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Yes, and I hope you will be one of them."

Narrated Ibn Umar (RA): I heard Allahs Apostle ﷺ saying, "When you see the crescent (of the month of Ramadan), start fasting, and when you see the crescent (of the month of Shawwal), stop fasting; and if the sky is overcast (and you cant see It) then regard the crescent (month) of Ramadan (as of 3O days)".

The following verses of the Quran are also about fasting Ramadan:

Verse 183

O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V. 2:2).

Verse 184

[Observing Saum (fasts)] for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man, etc.), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskin (poor person) (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, it is better for you if only you know.

Verse 185

The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Saum (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allah [i.e. to say Takbir (Allahu-Akbar; Allah is the Most Great) on seeing the crescent of the months of Ramadan and Shawwal] for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him.
