The Canadian trucker protest and why it's not a victory for Bitcoin.

The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is written for the federal government. It is an institutional document that serves as lip service to my citizenship “freedoms” It boils down to me having a right to a federal election every 5 years, at most.

Domestically my prime minister has more power than the president of the United States has domestically. The president still has great power internationally, yet they are held accountable by the USA check and balance system domestically.

When my prime minister decided to label citizens as a national emergency it showed his and his “party's” inability to act. He would not negotiate or meet in good faith, as it was not in his electoral favour. The institutions mentioned above allow for this monopoly power won by election. It is not an abuse of power as it has been legal, just not practiced.

Government-produced money was frozen it was done to starve the protest of its capital, previous protests have always run out of funds and dissipated. While I watched my fellow Canadians cheer on bitcoins circumventing our laws I saw something short-sighted.

I am a Canadian National, it is legal for me to purchase Bitcoin. exchanges know who I am, and how much taxes I should pay.

If ever I should need my Bitcoin I will never be able to use it in Canada as I will be marked. We wasted our first opportunity to use decentralized money on trucker protests. A poorly managed regime problem in my humble opinion. No one was taking the monopoly of violence away from the state. There was no immediate danger as that faced in Ukraine or Gaza. Yes us plebs learned from the protest. Ben and the team assisted the war front in Ukraine to funds in less than 48 hours, but we are not ready to take the monopoly of violence away from the state.
