True. I grew up in a hostile environment. I learned how to “be the required personality” to survive. I had to choose to put it away in the attic. I wish I never had that experience. I have to consciously choose to be true to my values sometimes.

I know there is both a “good” and “evil” me. I try not to lie, ever. Not to others, that is. I believe we all lie to ourselves. Knowingly and unknowingly.

The only problem I have now is distrust of others, because I know myself. Classic projection, probably.
