Well, spoiler alert:
Frank hated bill, stole a bunch of stuff from him, left him an angry note, and while escaping, got bitten and infected. He hung himself so he wouldn’t turn.
Bill is never seen or heard from again after Joel and Ellie visit, and most likely died paranoid and alone.
I thought this was an analogy for how lightning worked for a second and got very confused...

Of course HBO had to make them gay, show them kissing, and having the most beautiful relationship. Netflix would have probably made them black and given them pronouns too.
