I understand that neither twitter DMs or nostr DMs are private. Maybe the better question to ask is what are the privacy trade offs between the two?

For example, can Elon read my nostr DMs? I don't think so, but he can read my Twitter DMs.

Can anyone see who I've been DMing and when on Twitter? No, well no one except anyone with the right privileges.

In what circumstances would one prefer to use one platforms DMs over the other? In my opinion, if I had to choose, I think nostr is strictly better than Twitter for my usage. In what ways am I wrong about this?

twitter dms are read by anyone with access.

nostr dms are private until using them weakens the security of your key.

I think SimpleX is currently the go-to solution if you want privacy.

Ah ha, that's what I may have been missing. Is there a simple explanation you can give for how the DMs weaken the security of the key? Otherwise, do you have a link handy where I could learn more?

TL;DR repeatedly using the same key over and over again to encrypt data makes it easier to crack (among other concerns)
