Can someone explain to me like I’m 5 how USDT operates and if that is the “black swan” event that’ll cause massive pain?

I’m reading a book called Number Go Up by Zeke Faux - rather hectic information in there… I hardly ever use USDT more than a couple dollars testing the stuff out between exchanges…
