I sometimes include my sanity and time into the equation. For example, I'm considering not using an HSA next year. We use 3-5k annually, but it isn't worth the 25% tax benefit on that. Better to just 'lose money' in that case. Fortunately, I don't have to manually do anything to watch the student loans go to zero 😂

Avoiding paying taxes as much as possible is a moral imperative even if you are well enough off to afford it.
It isn't just that you save $1000 a year, 25% of $4k, it is another little dig against the beast. You don't matter alone. But times every nostr user that is a real number. At $5k annual that is $100 a month saved. I definitely get decent returns for my time.
I know how people feel about paper bitcoin, but FBTC in an HSA is a game changer financially and you steal back that tax money legally. It isn't my whole stack but it changes my families likelihood of getting crippled by a medical bill or needing to sell my self custody into a tax penalty by a lot.
