I have come to terms that parents who didn't do as well as we wanted them need some grace as it was the first time they have been at in life so they too are learning as well.

That’s true and I don’t hate my parents or anything, they just weren’t great role models. Not terrible either. But my grandma was (and still is) a role model caliber human.
