Sounds like you just described more than a few non-communist states too 🤔

But yeah, I listened to the "what we saw" podcast a few years ago and it seems to reach high positions in a communist state you really need to be a heartless turd of a person and when the next one capable of being more cruel comes along.... They steal your high position from you.

Statism in all its forms relies on bureaucracy. We view bureaucracy as a neutral animal. It should actually be viewed like the Uranium 235 which was in Chernobyl’s core.

There was a book I read a while back that classed bureaucracy as a form of power over others, like information or relative strength. I haven't seen it as neutral since.

Xenon-185.

Not naturally occurring. Completely inert. Expands to fill any available space. Slows down reactions. Absorbs useful resources. Harmful emissions, sent capriciously but on a predictable schedule.

:-p

Naw, not U235. That's valuable, naturally occurring and can perform useful work. Bureaucracy can be one of the daughter products.
