I like to do thought experiments where I imagine entities I don't agree with start implementing the protocols I'm using. How could they misuse it in ways I wish they didn't? I wonder if in practice, when the Twitters and Googles and Facebooks start noticing nostr, and building their own relays so they can suck up all of the free data, if what will end up happening is the vast majority of people will end up using the big three relays, because it's the only way to guarantee that your message is seen by everyone.

I suspect that's what will happen. The wallet wars lead me to believe that. Rather than promote sovereign solutions, we've entered a point where ease of use and always working is what more and more people are looking for, even if it's a custodial solution. I worry relays and clients will end up being the same way.

Yeah, that’s the big existential threat on the horizon. Similar to Bitcoin ETFs hoovering up all the the UTXOS,

Nostr risks the same existential threat: the big tech relays moving in and forking NIP-01

Look what happened to email.

It's interesting to see "tech" influencers out there saying that what happened to email was natural and almost desirable, when as it was happening I believe everybody was seeing it for what it really was: a tragedy.

But my understanding is it has only happened because of spam. Nostr has much better ways to deal with spam, I think.

I agree. A tragedy.

Right now, the biggest vendor FUD threat will be to claim that Nostr is not post-quantum resistant (so ‘buy my proprietary solution instead’).

I want to head off this threat asap.

lol who cares about PQ signatures right now

I hear ya. Nobody really cares except for those that don’t understand. It’s not so much the signatures, it’s post-quantum for NIP-44.

Nostr is only Nostr if clients implement the so-called "outbox model". If they do that then there will never be pressure to use centralized relays.

Of course anyone can implement a thing that looks like Nostr but actually isn't, but at least we should have the definitions clear and prepare the terrain while we have time so anyone will be able to spot any so-called "client" that isn't implementing Nostr correctly if they come.

Would relay group chat not be considered nostr then?

Please stop spotting flaws in my arguments.
