unfortunately in Florida you need hurricane insurance and they will not insure a roof with solar panels because it could have been structurally compromised.

and there isn't as much space in Florida as in Australia so i can't just use a ground array.

but solar roof tiles are improving. i expect by the time roof needs replacing the tech will be hurricane proof to the point where insurance will cover it.
