-THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE-

Mamula Castle, a Dark Secret. On an island just off the coast of Montenegro, in the area formerly known as Lastavica, stands an ancient castle with dark secrets.

This castle, called Mamula Castle, was built in the 1850s by the Austro-Hungarian admiral Lazar Mamula. Also known by the names Mamyla, the island is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Because a large portion of the castle remains standing, it is a popular tourist attraction.

Mamula Island has been dramatized in many stories and films throughout history. One of these is the 1959 Yugoslav film "Campo Mamula." The film recounts the island's transformation into a concentration camp during World War II.

In 2013, a Serbian film, Mamula, was announced. Later renamed "Killer Mermaid," the film tells the story of a former German soldier murdering people to feed a mermaid. The film was shot on the island and released for overseas release. Mamula Island is located 6 kilometers from the city of Herceg Novi.

The island is surrounded by a historic castle and features a park covered in natural vegetation. Mamula Island is a popular tourist destination for historical tours, and many of the island's historical artifacts and structures remain standing. However, there are no accommodations for tourists.
Boats to the Blue Cave are used to reach Mamula Island, and historical tours are organized on the island. Snorkeling is common around the island. You can experience stunning views under the clear, calm waters.
You can also swim in the water and gaze at the night sky, creating a romantic atmosphere.
