Perhaps. Im sure all of this was already being done by the various agencies responsible for letting people into the country anyways, so i suppose the announcement is garnering a bit too much outrage.
It does feel easily gamable though...for sophisticated actors. I wonder how useful it will be for accurate assessment.
It clearly already worked as a deterrence by the feedback this post got and they haven't even started it.
