might not be a mainland word (or brazilian) it's the traditional portuguese name of the little bar/cafe/grocery stores dotted all over rural Madeira

you seem from your notes to be a native portuguese speaker, i used the word because of that...

these days they tend to be called "snack bar" or "bar somename" or "cafe somename" - yes, some of them also do espetada madeirense - beef chunks on a skewer cooked over coals on a spit, but more often those are specialised places

the one closest to me does all the things and he also even slaughters goats that locals bring to him and sell cuts from it

yeah, the name seems to me like it has something to do with chilling out and reflecting after a day's work
