The Melanocetus, commonly known as the "black sea monster," was sighted emerging from the abyssal depths, swimming vertically just 2 kilometers off the coast of Tenerife.

This rare and eerie deep-sea creature, typically found in the pitch-black waters of the ocean's depths, was unexpectedly observed near the surface in February 2025.

Its haunting appearance, with a bioluminescent lure and gaping jaws, left witnesses both fascinated and unnerved by this unusual encounter so close to shore.
