Not the remake of Heart of Darkness I was expecting.

I'll admit, I had to look that one up. What I will say is that if someone of Trump's temperament (and I'm watching Vance and like a lot of what I see, honestly), could succeed with this type of colonialism...especially if invited...and not fleece the country or its citizens.
I could not say the same for any of the current living Democrats (gotta include Clintons and Obamas in there). Nor could I say the same for the Bushs or a lot of Republican leadership (McConnell, Graham, etc).
The 1st term opened Trump's eyes a bit. His approach this time - especially as he is working even MORE on legacy after being given more perspective in that 1st term regarding persecution and censorship - shows stronger character and care for humanity. And if you look at some coverage of him from decades back, and then tender moments with individual constituents now, I think he has a sincerity and caring heart.
Yes - he is still a capitalist and will use every loophole he can...and he still grifts with stuff like memecoins and collectibles...but he is doing it while still actively trying to close those loopholes.
I'm rooting for him, America, and the world...but he can't do it alone and none of the world leaders have the same care or thought of lasting legacy. They want absolute power to make the world how THEY want to see it - with their small group at the top of the pyramid.
Overall, I agree.
My primary concern at this point is one of management over time.
The fickle nature of US foreign policy (or at least large parts of it) being the result of relatively rapid, large scale changes in administrations every 4 to 8 years that tends to mismanage even the most well intended programs.
Completely agree - having said that...although I like Trump, he needs to be out after his two terms and have an appropriate successor. And Vance looking pretty good in the early innings. Get continuity through success and good succession planning...not re-writing the Constitution to allow more than 2 terms.
Meanwhile, let's get term limits on everyone else!
Yes.
There is no actually solution to growing the power of anyone involved.
From packing courts, to increasing terms.
The ethical concerns (and needs of the governed) are upstream of the elected or installed.
