Matching the tip completely changes the course of the conversation. Often it will go from a reluctant”Yeah that’s fine if you want to match it.” To “Wait, you already sent it? I have some bitcoin now.” I have witnessed so many lightbulb moments this way. If you really want to drive the message home, post their wallet address for people to send sats to it. Our bartender in JH was blown away and giddy. She couldn’t wait to learn more about bitcoin.

It’s a problem with lightning though. If you give them a easy lightning wallet, it’s often either custodial or really confusing (or impossible) to send out to a regular bitcoin address.

For beginners I would always suggest muun for that reason, since they can do either. The fees may be more, but they won’t run into problems.

We need better lightning wallets and better channel management, or else a better L2 altogether.

You’re orange pilling technique is just different from mine and that’s great. You never know what will ignite bitcoin interest in people. I want fast and simple transfer of sats, and then I give them my card with my contact info. I have done this well over a hundred times and have had several text me on where they can find more info on bitcoin. That is my goal at this point.

What I usually notice is that people will ask…

“What do I do with it now?”

or

“How do I cash it out?”

Then it’s a long explanation about time preference that usually goes over their head.
