I do expect govts to try this, but the excellent problem they will have is stopping people buying actual bitcoin, when they see their "btc- backed" shitcoin is inflating and clearly inferior to actual btc.

This is true, but if they "block" wallet apps they dont control they can attempt to maintain control

Yep. But the game will kind of be up then - they'll have admitted bitcoin is superior.
