The corporate press and local media actually hasn’t ignored the topic for many years. Globally everyday there are many stories covered in the press.
I’d say that a more accurate statement would be that they are sometimes selective with coverage, knowingly cover for select abusers, the press has been slow to give survivors an opportunity to speak and write. There are some media outlets with bias about the crime on both sides of the political spectrum.
I’d actually say that a hyper focus by the general online population on one type of perpetrator is actually having a more harmful impact than a perceived lack of press coverage.
Example: If everyone is focusing on Epstein elite type of trafficking they are possibly ignoring what’s going on in their own communities. Folks forget to make sure their child isn’t being groomed in the next room by a predator online. I’m not trying to downplay one or over-sensationalize another aspect of the crime.
