To start, Read up on Smith (wealth of nations), Mill (on liberty), Hayek (lots), Keynes (the economic consequences of the peace), Friedman (lots and youtube lectures).

Also an advanced knowledge of mathematics helps as well. It's not something you'll learn over a couple weekends but trust me it's worth it after.
