fun fact: carnivorans (main group of mammal carnivores) are all (very roughly speaking) cats or dogs (strictly speaking feliforms and caniforms)

eg seals bears and racoons are caniforms while hyena and mongoose are feliforms

so this basic contest of feline vs canine plays out a thousand different ways all over the world (although canines are more widespread)
