I tried to switch to linux, for basic home computing use.

I was advised to use Solus. The installation and setup was very easy but I gave up after seeing that it uses eopkg instead of apt.

When I try to install certain programs, it's impossible or requires additional painful steps for a noob.

Should i try linux mint or other distros? #asknostr #linux

Like Mint a lot! We have it on our home PC.

Using Debian Bookworm on my laptop, for a few weeks, and find I don't have to install as much, as on Mint, and it seems more stable. Like it.

Just use #Ubuntu until you're comfortable.

Mint is great ..

Not a Mint user myself, but if you are familiar with apt, Mint is probably the most stable and yet upto date option.

Debian, Devuan or Ubuntu, for a newcomer, for sure.

My late father was nearly 70 when I got him an Ubuntu desktop, and he was a total Boomer & Normie, but he learned very very quickly, I was impressed.

This right there.
