Does SimpleX have notifications for texting? I want to try it out, for family. Hoping its sorta "normal", for my wife to use too.

Asking because keet said they did not have notifications at launch. Didnt bother trying keet.

Yes, you have notifications, I recommend that you use the option to check regularly as it uses less battery and they are still instantaneous.
