My guess is - parental controls on devices are a huge nuisance to companies and developers. The incentives are totally misaligned. You want your customer to keep coming back, to stay online to access the store and to buy stuff, and somehow you’re expected to put in place very thoughtful UI to block all of that?! Huh??! Of course it’s not going to be great.

The subscription model also breaks incentives. You want to keep billing people as a company. Your incentives are to connect, addict and increase screen time. No one gives a 💩 about the kids… they just sort of expect parents to just not permit the things entirely if they are not happy. And sometimes that is the only solution. Get rid of it all.

I don’t see this being fixed any time soon.
